George || Jason&Mia

Mia was trying not to blush as he watched her, knowing she was probably a mess; tangled hair, bags under her eyes, and the pyjamas. She laughed lightly in agreement as he scrunched his face. “That is a very good question. Six fifteen definitely isn’t a great time for practice.” She shrugged. They were kids, and probably wanted to get some rehearsal in before school. But it was disruptive to everyone else. “I.. I would love to, but um. I’d have to get dressed first..” She laughed nervously.

Jason smiled, “Yeah, of course.” He honestly didn’t think she needed it, maybe it was a comfort thing. He thought she was quite attractive in the state she was in. Girls were weird like that, they always felt the need to look pretty or presentable all the time. He didn’t object though, it wasn’t his place. “Well, when you do get ready I suppose you could drive your car around… Unless you like jumping fences.” He laughed lightly. “4250 is the house number, the street name is Middle Creek and my house is a light gray brick with the big oak in the front.”

Mia had of course been frustrated, but when the man made his way into the parking lot with a smile her mood seemed to brighten. Not to mention she had already developed a slight friendship with the dog. George listened to his owner and sat beside him obediantly and Mia shook her head, now embarrassed by the fact that she hadn’t slipped on actual clothes. “That’s alright, I’m pretty sure I heard one of my new neighbours say something about starting their band practice at six fifteen anyways. I wouldn’t have slept much longer.” She laughed lightly, and unfortunately was not lyng, within moments they could hear drums. “I’m Mia.” She smiled, extending her hand.

Jason kept his gaze on her face as she spoke. He made a sour face, “Band practice at 6:15 in the morning?” he shook his head “That’s nuts.” He continued, chuckling a bit when the drums started in the background. “Who does that?” He wondered still finding the idea completely absurd. “Jason” He smiled taking her hand to shake. He allowed his hand to fall to his side. “Hey, um, would you like to come have a cup of coffee with me?” He asked using his thumb to point to the house behind them. “If you don’t have time, it’s totally cool. I just thought, since George woke you up you might want some coffee to wake up or something.” He shrugged, growing slightly awkward at his sudden loss of words.

Mia bent down, balancing on her toes and petting the dog. It was quite the loveable pup, that was for sure. She watched as it’s ears perked up at the sound of a man calling for ‘George’ and knew it must be his owner. “He’s over here!” She called, hoping the man would hear her and she would be able to go back to sleep.

Jason walked to the back of yard, pausing at the fence to call another couple of times. He heard a woman call back, though he didn’t see her. “Oh um, okay, one sec.” He hollered back before hoping over the chain-link fence. He continued to walk through the darkness between the apartment buildings, soon greeted by the slow rising sun. He smiled at the woman in the parking lot holding his dog. “Thanks” He grinned, “Bad dog, Georgey!” He scolded shaking his finger, “sit and don’t move.” He commanded looking back up to her. “Sorry about that,” he frowned noticing she was still in her robe “I hope he didn’t wake you up too early.”

The barking was non-stop. Mia rolled over sleepily and glanced at the clock on the small bedside table of her new one-bedroom rental apartment and rubbed her eyes in frustration. It was six am. She wasn’t supposed to start in her position as police officer until the following Monday, and after university and all of the courses she had taken in Chicago, she knew that sleeping in was quite the luxury, and she intended on taking full advantage of it until then. But the barking. It would just not end. Getting out of bed she slipped her pajamas and a robe on and made her way down to the main floor, and out into the front. Sure enough there was the Mutt, now silenced and wagging his tail. She scratched behind his ear and reached for his collar. He seemingly belonged to a man named Jason. “George? Where’s your daddy?” She asked, her eyes still adjusting to the light.

Jason was up earlier than usual. He had the pot of coffee on and decided to let George out while he showered and shaved. He was still half asleep as he stepped into the shower, washing his lack of hair before washing his body and finally his face. Once out of the shower, he wrapped himself in his robe and shaved the bit of stubble from his face. He quickly dressed and went to let George back inside. He opened the door to find that George wasn’t waiting like he usually did. He called him a few times, whistled and clicked his tongue a bit. Still nothing. Jason slipped on a pair of shoes and went into the back yard to look for him. He continued to call his name, hoping that his beloved pet would reappear.
